“The Huddersfield Singers would appear to be the local choir for people who are ambitious to explore all sorts of repertoire…”

William Marshall, The Huddersfield Daily Examiner, June 2015

Introduction

The Huddersfield Singers is a chamber choir of 30–40 members which was formed in 1875 as the Huddersfield Glee & Madrigal Society. The choir performs a wide variety of sacred and secular music from all periods of musical history, ranging from the mediæval to the present day.

Alexander Douglas
Alexander Douglas

Alexander Douglas became Conductor of The Huddersfield Singers at the start of the 2014–15 Season. Alex is a highly qualified musician with experience in directing many types of ensemble, both choral and instrumental. He is also a talented jazz pianist and composer. A great exponent of Bach’s music, Alex is keen to maintain the choir’s diverse and innovative repertoire. In the same month as he started conducting this choir, Alex also appeared on BBC television in the finals of the BBC Songs of Praise Gospel Choir of the Year competition with his AINE ensemble.

To assist in a further improvement of its performance standards, The Huddersfield Singers is currently very interested in recruiting new members who are serious about quality music-making. All voices are welcome, but we are especially in need of TENORS. Singers interested in joining a chamber choir on the rise are welcome to come along to any rehearsal (for more details see the recruitment page).

The choir is always keen to welcome new members of all voice parts. Weekly rehearsals take place on Monday evenings between 7.30pm and 9.30pm at the Huddersfield Methodist Mission, 15 Lord Street, Huddersfield (see a map), and choir members also enjoy a flourishing social programme throughout the year.

So, if you have a musical ear, click on the cartoon to the right to visit our recruitment page for more information about joining!
